It’s my birthday! I am, as you might have guessed by the title, 23 years old and of course, I had to write a blog post about it. Blogging is a huge part of my life so I knew I wanted to post something here on my birthday. However, as I was thinking about what to write, most of my ideas were rather self-reflective and, frankly, a little bit sorry for myself so I wanted to come up with 23 positive things which I want to continue doing or work to achieve now that I am 23.
1. Travel to Iceland; my number one dream destination at the moment is the Blue Lagoon and getting to see the Northern Lights
2. Hit the gym and lose at least a stone. Sounds dramatic, but really I just need to find some much-needed motivation and feel better about my body.
3. Hit 500 followers on Bloglovin – I feel that this is a reasonable figure to aim for over the next year, so fingers crossed!
4. Hit 2000 followers on Twitter – again I think this is a fairly low estimate so hopefully this is achievable!
5. Move to Leeds. This is the Big One. I’m on the job hunt for marketing and PR jobs in Leeds and my dream is to be there by Christmas. This is one thing I am determined will have happened by the time I’m 24 – however, now I’ve said that, I bet something upsets this plan!
6. Find the perfect pair of over the knee boots and be confident enough to rock them in public. Not all things have to be ‘important’
7. Try dating again. Probably not yet, but at some point I’d like to put myself out there again and see what happens.
8. Wear falsh eyelashes. I’m 23 and have never tried them – at the very least it would be entertaining.
9. Travel out of Europe. I’d love to visit South America or New Zealand, although these might be destinations that will have to wait a few years. If I’m going to go, I want to do it properly!
10. Make new friends. I am quite happy with a small friendship group, but this often makes me lazy when it comes to putting myself out there and making new friends.
11. Attend more blogger meets. Like I mentioned above, I find it hard to be confident with new people and I’m determined to not stick to only bloggers I know at blogger events. I’ve already signed up for the Leeds Xmas Meet in December and I’m excited to chat to some new people!
12. Set a fitness challenge and complete it. This year it was the Race for Life. Next year, who knows? Do you have any suggestions?
13. Settle on a punchy sentence to describe my ‘style.’ How is this so hard to do?
14. Go back to the Warner Bros Studio Tour, because I’m obsessed!
15. Walk my dog more. I always enjoy it when I get off the sofa and actually get outdoors – luckily I’m spending next week on a cottage holiday in Yorkshire with my family so there will be plenty of time for dog walking!
16. Eat and review all those local restaurants on my list. I keep finding myself saying “I hear that it’s really good there” – I want to go and try it all for myself!
17. Carry on not biting my nails. This was one of my New Year’s Resolutions (for about the fifth time) but they are currently looking long and freshly painted. I want this to continue!
18. Go to a live gig. I was supposed to see Walk Off The Earth earlier this month but I didn’t manage to make it, and I miss live music!
19. Pick up the violin or piano again. On the point of music, I used to play four instruments and sing and I’d like to pick at least one up again, in an informal and social way. Plus it’s always fun to have a party piece to play on the piano!
20. Carry on improving my skincare regime. I’ve made a great start with my current skincare saviours, but I’m excited to see my skin continue to improve.
21. Go back to Croatia. I fell in love with Croatia this year and I would love to return and explore the rest of the country, including Dubrovnik, Split and I’d love to go island hopping.
22. Go Geo-caching. Thanks to Corinne for this one!
23. Take every opportunity I’m given. This sums up a lot of the previous points really – I want to make the most of this year and go everywhere and do everything I possibly can! I’m excited to see what being 23 brings!
So there we have it, 23 things to focus on for the next year of my life! There seem like a lot, but the overall theme is happiness, travel and finding my place in the adult world; simple, right? There’s only one way to find out!
Do you use your birthday as a time to reflect or look forwards?
