Fitness Friday: 4 ways to stay in shape on holiday

It’s Fitness Friday! Since I’ve just got back from Croatia and I am now off to Kefalonia at the weekend, I wanted to write a post about keeping on track with your fitness whilst on holiday. Although I am definitely an advocate for relaxing whilst on holiday, I know that I want to try and keep some fitness going whilst I am away. So here are some quick tips for you:

1. Make good food choices
Just because you are on holiday, it doesn’t mean that you have to pick the biggest greasiest burger every single day. Choosing the fish rather than the pasta or a spirit rather than wine isn’t going to make a huge difference to your holiday, but your diet might thank you!

2. Drink plenty of water
I am terrible at staying hydrated in hot countries and end up grumpy and dehydrated. Drinking water has many more benefits as well as just hydration and is known to help with weight loss. Staying hydrated will ensure you feel fuller, are less likely to snack and your skin will be so much better.


3. Try bodyweight exercises
You may not have a gym, but exercise doesn’t have to fall by the wayside. A quick circuit of bodyweight exercises can make you feel much better about yourself if you are feeling unfit. I plan on trying to fit in just 30 V sit ups, squats, lunges and press ups every day. Realistically this won’t make a huge difference, but it will make me feel like I’m doing something to keep my fitness plan going during my time away.

4. Take a break!
Last of all, don’t forget that you are on holiday. If you want to lie in the sun and do absolutely nothing for a week, then go ahead and do it! Taking some time off isn’t going to affect your fitness plan too drastically and actually, it’s far better to relax than be constantly worrying about fitting in some exercise. I plan on enjoying my holiday completely!
