OOTD and DIY: Re-Adorn

Hello! Today’s post is a bit of a combo one, including both an outfit post and, more excitingly, a ‘refashion.’ I picked up this dress from Adorned as I was drawn to its beautiful print, but I knew that I wanted to chop it to bits to create a new, updated piece of clothing:

Skirt: Adorned (DIY). Top: New Look. Sandals: Topshop. Necklace: New Look. Coat: Asos.

What I Did:
I took the dress and promptly chopped it in half with some fabric scissors. The top half I hemmed into a crop top, which still needs shortening by another inch or so to fit me perfectly. The bottom half I shortened to a more flattering knee length and hemmed. I also made sure that I left enough length to roll the top of the skirt, in order to thread it with elastic for an elasticated waist. There are some useful instructions on how to do this on Pinterest, such as this elastic waist skirt tutorial.

The skirt becomes much more modern with a shorter hemline and by hemming it myself, it means that it hits me perfectly just about the knee. I love the button down style, which is very on trend for Spring. It just shows how vintage pieces come back into fashion and a little editing can breathe new life into something which could have easily been neglected.

How I Styled It:
I paired my new skirt with a crop top from New Look. I’ve been on the hunt for a v-neck crop top for a while, but they all seem to have ridiculous straps which aren’t very appropriate. This New Look version is perfect, both for daytime and nights out. Although it could do with perhaps an extra inch, the top works well with the blue skirt. I added a statement necklace and my favourite Topshop sandals. These are still going strong after over two years and are my favourite thing to wear in the Summer.

What do you think of my DIY refashion? Do you have any tips for transforming vintage pieces?
