Living in Cambridge, London is actually much closer than most people think and the fast train can get you into King’s Cross in just 50 minutes. This year, I’m trying to make the most of living so close to the capital and head there more often for concerts, meals or to tick off all those tourist attractions I keep meaning to visit. So when LUMA Concept Hotel offered me the opportunity to stay at their hotel, I knew I had to make a weekend of it!
LUMA Concept Hotel is the perfect location for a trip to London, whether for business or pleasure. It's located in Hammersmith, just a couple of minutes from the nearest tube and is well connected for the rest of London. It's also a great location for Heathrow Airport if you want to take advantage of London but still get to the airport on time.
The room is simply decorated with a fun quote on the wall – I do love a X-Men reference! I wasn’t so sure on the open plan bathroom, which felt a little strange, and the room didn’t feel like it needed to combine the bedroom and bathroom; it made the room feel smaller rather than larger somehow. Luckily, the toilet was still a separate room! I liked the little window seat and the bed was huge and oh so comfortable. It’s always a pleasant surprise to have a good night’s sleep in a city! The Grab and Go breakfast was also a nice concept, although not quite for me – the pastries and fruit were rather basic, you didn’t know what you were getting until you opened your bag and personally, I’d rather have a proper breakfast or go without.
Whenever I visit London, I always check what’s on at the Royal Albert Hall as this beautiful venue is one of my favourite ways to spend an evening in the capital. If you aren’t sure what to do, LUMA Concept Hotel are ready to help with a tablet and phone in your room loaded with the latest what’s on and staff who are more than happy to book you last minute tickets for anything that takes your fancy.
For a hidden London gem, head to St Dunstan In The East. This fascinating place is hidden away just minutes from Liverpool Street station, between dozens of towering, modern buildings. This church was bombed out during the Blitz and the City of London turned the space into a public garden. The result is a secluded oasis in the centre of the city and a magical experience (if you don’t mind all the bloggers who have also discovered this spot!)
If you’re looking for somewhere to eat, German Gymasium is my latest foodie discovery and I’m a big fan. It’s located just outside King’s Cross, perfect if you are arriving or leaving from the station, and a great spot for brunch. The poached eggs are perfectly cooked and the floral surroundings are beautiful, creating a little oasis despite being so close to the train station. It's also huge, which means you're less likely to need to make a reservation - which is always a bonus when in London!
Of course, I can’t travel anywhere without finding some Harry Potter themed to do and the Cauldron is definitely a magical experience. This Harry Potter inspired cocktail evening is an absolute delight. If you're a Harry Potter nerd like me it's the best way to spend an evening and if you're not, the cocktail making is great fun whether you love the books or not! I loved concocting our cocktails, pouring ingredients into each other to change colours, grinding up herbs with a pestle and mortar and even stirring a potion with dry ice in a cauldron before drinking it! It’s great value too, costing £29.99 for the whole experience which includes wizards robes, a magic wand, a reserved table, an interactive experience to brew 2 cocktails yourself then drink and then a final beer or cocktail from the bar. It books up well in advance, so if you want to go it’s best to get organised sooner rather than later.
There's so much to see in London, you'll never run out of places to visit, and I'm slowly working my way through my London bucket list. I'm definitely inspired to explore the capital more as a result of my mini London break and LUMA Concept Hotel is the perfect base to start your London adventures.
I was invited for a complimentary stay at LUMA Concept Hotel in exchange for my review.
