I've never considered Secret Escapes for a holiday before; although I know they are legit, there's something 'out of my control' I don't like about a package deal - normally, I much prefer to book my own flights and accommodation and organise where I'm going to visit myself. However, we had been researching a trip to Iceland for the February half term and flights had hugely increased in price. Then, I spotted a fantastic deal; a five day trip including flights, transfers, hotel with breakfast and four tours for £550. The tours alone totaled a cost of £280 when bought separately, so we jumped at the deal and took the risk.

The risk was worth it; we had an incredible holiday and I am now addicted to Secret Escapes! We stayed in a brilliant hotel on the outskirts of Reykjavik with was clean, simple and had everything we could need. The biggest bonus was that breakfast was included – Iceland is an expensive county, particularly when it comes to food, so I would really recommend staying somewhere with a breakfast option so you are guaranteed a big meal to start the day.

If you’re looking for somewhere cheap to eat in the daytime, my number one recommendation is Svarta Kaffid, otherwise known as the place that serves soup in bread. The menu is simple; you choose either meat or vegetarian and are served your chosen soup in a hollowed out loaf of bread. The queue down the street for this tiny café is worth the wait
