Fitness Friday: Learning to Run

I don’t run. I’ve always done sport of some description;
swimming, ballet, gymnastics and exercise classes but the one thing I don’t do is run. I just can’t. Within
seconds, my lungs are burning, my breathing is shallow and my calves tense up.
This year I am trying to push myself like I have never done before in my life –
whether this is by travelling to New York, aiming to gain a distinction in my
Masters’ degree or say yes to opportunities which come my way. So this week I
signed up to the Race for Life. Yes, it may ‘only be 5k,’ but I am terrified!

So today I don’t have any tips, tricks or exercises for
you, like on my usual Fitness Friday. Today I have a question. How do you run?
If you are a runner, how did you start? What are your
tips for a complete newbie?

And most importantly of all, how did you start to enjoy
it?
