AD: Adding a splash of personality with Posterstore

One of the biggest criticisms of new builds is that they have “no personality.” It’s something I’ve never agreed with, as for me they are actually the perfect blank canvas to put your own stamp on. The easiest way to do this is using posters and prints. After all, the joy of owning your own home is being able to change those walls! So when Posterstore.co.uk got in touch, I couldn’t wait to give my bedroom its very own identity.

Read on for an exclusive 35% discount code at Posterstore to transform your walls.

The white walls and simple decor of our bedroom was clean and modern, but lacking character. I wanted our bedroom to feel relaxing and luxurious. For inspiration, I headed straight to Pinterest. I always find that it’s the best place to collate ideas and streamline them into a cohesive theme.

When starting to plan the design of a room, I tend to focus on the core colour I want to use. I felt drawn to emerald, so this became the base colour for the room. I also wanted to add a sense of opulence, so I added accents of gold. If you can’t feel like royalty in your own home, when can you?

With my colours decided, I turned to the hardest decision; which artwork to put on the walls. Posterstore has so many prints to choose from, so I searched by colour to find images to match my theme. The forest themed prints immediately made me feel relaxed and calm – exactly how I want to feel in my home.

The “gallery wall inspiration” helped me choose which prints to compliment one another. I saw that the example gallery walls had combined the forest prints with golden or natural coloured prints, so I chose to do the same. I also loved the golden frames, which I knew would work perfectly with my emerald and golden theme.

The “gallery wall inspiration” also helped me to plan my layout. The trickiest thing about gallery walls is deciding exactly how to lay out your pictures. Seeing the context of different layouts in different rooms made it feel much more simple.

When the prints and frames arrived, I was impressed with their quality. These definitely aren’t home-printed posters! The prints felt high-quality and are printed on sustainably produced paper. The frames were surprisingly lightweight and perfect for easy hanging, particularly with the help of our Bosch laser level.

For the rest of the room, I picked a similar toned velvet lampshade from Dunelm and new bedding from La Redoute. My statement William Wood mirror has an almost Art Deco vibe, which helps make the room look bigger. But really, the artwork is centre-stage and brings the whole room together. I’m in love!
