Winter Workwear

What to wear to work is a struggle at the best of times, but in winter, the question of an office-appropriate outfit gets harder when you add the need to keep warm. When all I want to do is put on some leggings and an oversized knitted jumper, it can be hard to decide what to wear to work which is cosy but professional, so today I’ve challenged myself to put together an office-appropriate winter outfit, perfect for keeping warm but still looking professional at work.

Knitwear and layers are my secret to cosy office style. This striped turtleneck from Simply Be is perfect for work – there’s no low neckline, it looks smart and the colours are simple and basic. That doesn’t mean it’s boring; it’s smart but a turtleneck is a little bit different to a more traditional shirt and suit. Knits can be difficult to wear at work if your company culture is more corporate, but I think this jumper is the perfect balance between smart and comfortable.

I layered my warm knit underneath this perfect structured dress, also from Simply Be. I was immediately drawn to dress thanks to its smart suit-like style and midi length. My only disappointment is that the dress doesn’t live up to its Magisculpt description; I was expecting a tighter, more figure-hugging design and fabric to ‘suck you in’ but actually, the dress is a little roomy. However, the shape is flattering on all figures; either accentuating any curves you might already have or creating an illusion of an hourglass shape instead.

Of course, I had to accessorise my outfit with my brand new Radley handbag. It’s my official “businesswoman with her shit together” handbag. Radley are my favourite handbag brand thanks to my Mum and we have a mutual obsession with their dog-themed handbags. Their design is always evolving and improving and this handbag is sleek and professional – with the added bonus that it fits my laptop in, meaning it’s perfect for meetings. I love the monochrome split design with the lime strap, which adds some colour to an otherwise neutral outfit.

This outfit gives me the confidence to feel like actually, maybe, I do know what I’m doing and to walk into that meeting feeling put-together and ready for whatever the working day might bring. Now the months are getting colder, it also keeps me cosy in the office and, however much I’d like to finish the outfit off with a pair of fluffy slippers, feeling professional.
